Snow camping at Carne mountain, central cascades, WA

Carne Mountain (pronounced Carn mountain) is a serious climb with awesome panoramic views of the Chiwawa ridge, Phelps creek basin and even the enchantment valley.

It is a serious climb with over 3600ft elevation gain in approx. 4 miles. Starting at the trailhead at 3500ft elevation, the trail immediately commences to climb with a couple of switch backs. After about 3 miles of serous climbing, we reached a high basin covered in snow and golden larch trees. We setup base camp at the basin around 6134 ft. and climbed some more to summit Carne mountain at 7085ft.
